VANESSA NOWITZKY

Vanessa Nowitzky is the innovator of singdancing, a technique whereby movement affects vocalization to form melodies. She grew up singing Renaissance madrigals with musician parents Aletha Nowitzky and Rob Lowry, who brought her to Ashland, Oregon. After studying acting at the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts, where she wrote her first original musical "Werewolf Blues", Vanessa attended SOU and Cornish College of the Arts, where she began creating her singdance technique. She earned her BFA in music at the California Institute of the Arts, studying composition and Icelandic folk song with Lucky Mosko. In addition to singdancing, Vanessa loves composing music for choir, chamber ensemble, and film. She has written three musicals, one a commission for animation. Vanessa has led a singdancing company since 2002. www.singdancing.com
