George Alison Smith, served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a Tech Sergeant. He belonged Tech Sergeant George A. Smithto the 49th Field Artillery Battalion under Eric. B. Sundling, 1st Lt.

He served in the battles for Attu, Kiska, Kwajalein, Eniwetok, Leyte, Okinawa, the Phillipines and Korea.

A graduate of Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles, he also attended Los Angeles City College. He was an accountant with Shell Oil Co. before being inducted. His induction came on October 27, 1941, at Fort McArthur. His tour of duty ended on November 17, 1945.

He was a supply non commissioned officer with the 49th F.A.B. He supervised 4 other supply men and clerks in the issue of clothing, equipment, rations, guns and ammunition. Handled salvage about once every week. He took inventory and kept records of all incoming and outgoing supplies.

This is the Seventh Infantry Division cemetery on Okinawa in the Ryukyus. Here rest the gallant dead who so unselfishly paid the supreme price for freedom. May they rest in Peace.
